Contacts

Champaign County Inmate Population is a private reference site, not a government counter or jail office. It cannot confirm custody status, arrange release, post bond, schedule a visit, or retrieve an official booking record. Use the official office below for the record or service you need.

Official Offices for Jail and Records Questions

For current jail matters, the Sheriff's contact page routes inmate visitation, bond, and charge questions to the Champaign County Jail. Sheriff's Office records and FOIA requests use a different Main Street office, while court files are handled by the Circuit Clerk.

Sheriff's Office FOIA requests must be in writing. The Sheriff's form routes completed requests by email attachment to SheriffFOIA@co.champaign.il.us, by mail to the Sheriff's Office at 204 E. Main Street, Urbana, IL 61801, or by fax to 217-384-1219. The contact page identifies Lieutenant Brad Wakefield as the Sheriff's FOIA Officer and lists 217-384-1215 for that role. Illinois FOIA generally gives the office 5 working days to respond, with a possible extension when the Act allows it.

  • For someone booked in the county jail, start with jail inmate records and then call the jail line if the posted record is not enough.
  • For booking photos or image availability, use jail roster mugshots and the Sheriff's public documents or FOIA route.
  • For formal charges, court dates, or case copies after arrest, use court records after a jail arrest and the Champaign County Circuit Clerk at 101 E. Main Street.
  • For facility-specific visitation, mail, bond, and location details, use the Champaign County Jail page linked in the footer.
  • For a person sentenced to state prison, use the Illinois Department of Corrections Individual in Custody Search instead of the county jail roster.
  • For federal or immigration custody, use the federal BOP Inmate Locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System.
